The Twelve Months
THIS IS MY BIRTH MONTH: JANUARY
JANUARY: Stubborn and hard-hearted. Ambitious and serious. Loves to teach and be taught. Always looking at people’s flaws and weaknesses. Likes to criticize. Hardworking and productive. Smart, neat and organized. Sensitive and has deep thoughts. Knows how to make others happy. Quiet unless excited or tensed. Rather reserved. Highly attentive. Resistant to illnesses but prone to colds. Romantic but has difficulties expressing love. Loves children. Loyal. Has great social abilities yet easily jealous. Very stubborn and money cautious.
“It’s me alright. Mmm.. I don’t want to “isi bakul angkat sendiri” lah. On my office work only. It works on my family, not to other ppl. No, it isn’t me, I’m a spendthrift. “

I remember seeing a TV programme “Next Top Model” where one participant whose long hair was cut short to a “Boyish Look” style and had it patched to lengthen it again the next day. Another TV Programme showing eyelashes patched up with a kind of hair to make them look thicker and longer. One must have patience and it has to be the expert to have this work done. Imagine sticking tiny hairs together and glued them to the eyelashes.
I didn’t know that this trend has reached Sabah, until last January 2008 when Renee, my sister’s daughter in-law came back after spending Christmas with her parent in Tambunan. At first I thought she was applying mascara on her eyelashes which looked neat and tidy. Nothing stopped me from asking though.
Me : Renee, what type of mascara are you using, it doesn’t smudge at all?
Renee : Teda lah auntie, ini bulu mata tampal.
Me : Ya kah! I’ve seen it on TV but I didn’t know the trend reached here already.
A new technology that is, and it really looks nice on her; very much different from the existing artificial eyelashes sell in pair where it can easily be done by oneself in less than five minutes.
After more than 4 months last week, I took a few days off and have a spree to visit my sister, it was then Renee told me that Rose, a Maybank staff from Kota Kinabalu comes to their office promoting credit card at the same time introducing her personal business “Eye-lashes extension”. And so I took the chance… I have my eye-lashes patched up.
